Patrick Early studied French, Spanish and Russian at Cambridge. After teaching English in Morocco, he joined the British Council and spent his working life overseas. English Language Adviser to the Yugoslav government under Tito, he returned twenty years later to witness the collapse of Federal Yugoslavia and the Balkan conflict. In 1991 he was awarded an OBE.
On retirement, Patrick obtained an MA in creative writing at Goldsmith’s College and became a regular student of the London Poetry School. He has published poems in a number of Irish and British journals, and contributed short critical essays to the online Literary Encyclopedia.
His first poetry collection, Ice Flowers over Rocks, was published by Lapwing Press, Belfast 2013. A Voice in Time – translations of the poetry of Antonio Machado, was published in 2014 and The Road Home an anthology of poems and translations in 2018; both by Our Glass Publishing.
